Sjögren syndrome (SS) is a chronic systemic disorder characterized by polyglandular tissue destruction that causes keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) and xerostomia. Patients with primary Sjögren syndrome have keratoconjunctivitis sicca and xerostomia, whereas those with secondary Sjögren syndrome have keratoconjunctivitis sicca, xerostomia, and an autoimmune disease.
